Bubbling Rock DIY

Why Install a Bubbling Rock?

If you're looking for a water feature with serious visual impact and minimal upkeep, a bubbling rock is hard to beat. Unique by nature as no two rocks are alike, a bubbler delivers many of the same rewards as a full pond without the maintenance demands.

The gentle sound of water trickling over stone sets a mood all on its own, and when you add night lighting, the whole feature transforms into something truly spectacular after dark. Moving water also attracts birds and other wildlife, giving your yard a sense of life and activity that hard landscaping alone never can. Better still, energy-efficient pumps paired with programmable timers keep operating costs surprisingly low.

If you'd like some hands-on guidance before you start, we offer seminars on How to Build a Water Feature to walk you through the process from start to finish.

How to Start

Before anything else, ask yourself: where will I enjoy this the most? The best placement is wherever you'll see and hear the bubbler most often: from a favourite patio chair, or even through a window on cooler days. Once you've identified a few candidate spots, consider how much space you have to work with, whether you already have a decorative rock in mind or need to visit our yard to find one, and whether a power source is accessible nearby.

With a location in mind, take some time to look at different designs and styles to settle on what fits your taste and budget. We have design booklets available at Silverthorn Landscape Supplies to help spark ideas.

Next, get your measurements. Write down the length, width, and height of the area, and note any slopes or grade changes you'll need to account for.

Finally, sketch your plan on paper. It doesn't need to be elaborate — a simple drawing with your measurements and product choices noted makes everything easier to communicate and helps you avoid surprises once you're in the middle of the build.
